An iPhone Duo with iOS 27.1 or later. USB-C Apple Pencil works on iOS 27.2 or later.

Beside the page, choose Type, Draw or Select. In Draw, your Apple Pencil or a finger puts down ink, and two fingers turn the page. In Type, Apple Pencil turns into typed text. In Select, tap what's on the page, or hold and drag to circle it. Tap the checkmark, or the tool again, to put it down. USB-C Apple Pencil on iPhone Duo needs iOS 27.2 or later.

Long press the line and choose Edit Drawing. You can also choose Select beside the page, then tap a line, or hold and drag to circle several. Change the color or thickness, drag to move, or pinch to resize.

Tap the photo. Drag it to move it, drag a corner to resize it, or drag the round handle above it to rotate it. The bar below can move it up or down among other photos, show it larger to save or share, or remove it. Tap Done when you're finished.

Open the ••• menu in My Notebooks and choose Arrange Notebooks, or long press a notebook and choose Arrange. Drag notebooks into place, and drop one on the middle of a bundle to put it inside. Tap the checkmark when you're done.

Every notebook starts with one page and grows as you need it. Tap the + button and choose New Page, or swipe past the last page and tap Add a Page on the back cover. In All Pages you can press and hold any page to duplicate, reorder, save, seal or delete it.

Pick a paper when you create a notebook, or in Edit Notebook. Planner, Journal and the others come in a Write version and a Type version. To change one page, open the ••• menu and choose Page Background.

Tap the notebook button to close. Double tap it for All Pages, or press and hold it for the page carousel. You can also pinch partway for the carousel, or pinch all the way to close. Double tap the page to start typing.

Shake your phone to record your screen, show what went wrong, then tap Stop. The clip attaches to your feedback email, and you review it before anything is sent.

In the page carousel, swipe a page up and tap the share icon, or use the ••• menu on a page. To share a notebook, swipe it up on My Notebooks. Papertrail sends files, never links, and sealed pages stay out of a shared notebook.

End a line with @nudge and a time, such as @nudge tomorrow at 5pm. Papertrail sets a reminder when the page saves. Allow notifications when asked so it can reach you.

A seal hides a page or notebook until you open it with Touch ID or your passcode. Your phone needs a passcode to use seals. Seals keep things private inside the app. Backups and exported copies still contain sealed pages, so keep those somewhere safe.

Patina is how a notebook shows its age. As you use it, the cover scuffs and fades and the pages yellow, moving from Fresh to Vintage. You can start a notebook further along in Edit Notebook, or pause it in Settings.

Open Settings from the round button beside the My Notebooks title, turn on Back Up to iCloud, and choose a folder in iCloud Drive. You can restore from the same place.

Open Settings, tap Papertrail Plus, then tap Restore Purchases, using the same Apple Account you bought it with.

Yes. Papertrail reads your handwriting on your phone so search can find it. It works best with clear writing, and it can take a moment after you stop writing. Sealed pages and notebooks are left unread.

Open Settings from the round button beside the My Notebooks title and choose Send Feedback, or shake your phone to report a bug. Papertrail fills in an email for you to review and send. You can also write to hello@hellopapertrail.com directly.

Subscriptions are managed by Apple. Open the Settings app on your iPhone, tap your name, then Subscriptions.
