Privacy Policy
Papertrail doesn't collect your data. Your notebooks stay on your device unless you choose to back them up or share them.
What stays on your device
Everything you create in Papertrail is stored in the app's private storage on your iPhone. That includes your notebooks, pages, handwriting, photos, reminders, settings and the name you enter during setup. We have no servers that receive this information, and we can't see it.
Handwriting search reads your writing with Apple's on-device text recognition. What it finds is stored with your notebook and never leaves your phone because of this feature.
What we don't do
Papertrail has no advertising, analytics or tracking, and it doesn't sell or share data with anyone.
Services you choose to use
- iCloud Drive backups. If you turn on backups, Papertrail writes copies of your library to the folder you pick. If that folder is in iCloud Drive, Apple stores it under your Apple Account. Backups include sealed pages.
- Feedback. If you send feedback, it goes as an email from your own mail account, with the app and iOS versions added where you can see them. We use it to reply and to improve Papertrail.
- iPhone backups. Like most apps, Papertrail's data is included in iCloud or computer backups of your iPhone if you use them, including sealed pages.
- Restoring. When you restore a backup, the library it replaces is kept on your iPhone for 7 days in case you need it, then removed.
- Saving and sharing. Pages and copies you export go wherever you send them.
- Photos. Papertrail uses Apple's photo picker, so it only receives the photos you choose. It asks for permission to add images only if you save a page to your photo library.
- Notifications. Reminders are scheduled on your device and don't pass through our servers.
- Touch ID and passcode. iOS handles these checks. Papertrail only learns whether the check passed.
- Purchases. Apple processes Papertrail Plus. We don't receive your payment details.
Keeping and deleting your data
Deleting a notebook removes it from the app. Deleting Papertrail removes everything stored in the app from your iPhone. Backups you made stay in your chosen folder until you delete them.
Children
Papertrail doesn't knowingly collect information from anyone, including children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will appear on this page with a new date.
